Reclaiming Your Life, Moment by Moment

Living with a chronic illness, whether it is an autoimmune condition, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, or long-term pain—is a journey that reshapes your entire world. When your body feels unpredictable, it is incredibly easy to feel disconnected from yourself and isolated from those around you.

At Moment by Moment Collective, we believe that while you may not always be able to control a diagnosis, you can absolutely transform how you live alongside it. Co-founded by Maheera Hobaya and Purity Mwathi, our chronic wellness pathway is a gentle, supportive space designed to help you transition from merely surviving to finding a deep sense of holistic well-being. We combine trauma-informed peer support with mindfulness strategies to help you navigate symptom flares, process the emotional grief of health changes, and build a meaningful, resilient life.

Managing Your Energy: Breaking the “Boom and Bust” Cycle

When you live with a long-term health condition, daily life becomes a delicate balancing act of energy reserves. Without realizing it, many of us get caught in a frustrating physical and emotional cycle that drains our vitality.

Living with chronic symptoms often forces us into two distinct patterns of behavior:

  • The Boom and Bust Cycle: On a “good day” when symptoms are low, it is incredibly tempting to overexert yourself to make up for lost time. You push past your limits (the Boom), which inevitably triggers a severe symptom flare-up, forcing you into days of mandatory, painful rest (the Bust).
  • Flattening the Curve (Mindful Pacing): This approach focuses on establishing a sustainable baseline. Instead of letting a temporary burst of energy dictate your activity, you intentionally distribute your energy evenly across your week, keeping your activity steady regardless of how you feel in a single moment.

Bridging the Gap

The Boom and Bust cycle keeps your body in a constant state of shock, making it incredibly difficult to plan your life or trust your physical capabilities. It leaves you feeling like your illness is completely running the show.

We bridge this gap through the practice of mindful pacing. By learning to tune into your body’s quiet, early warning signs rather than waiting for a full-blown flare-up, you can break the crash-and-burn cycle. Within our community, we practice tools that help you gently anchor your awareness, establish realistic boundaries for your daily energy, and flatten the curve of your symptoms. This steady approach gives your system the predictability it needs to find true stability, comfort, and sustainable peace.
